Newtown Shotokan Karate Club Achieves Record Success at WKGB National Championships 2026

Six members of Newtown Shotokan Karate Club proudly represented JKS Wales at the WKGB National Championships 2026, delivering the club’s most successful performance at this prestigious competition to date.

The event brought together talented karateka from across the country, showcasing exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Representing both their club and JKS Wales, the Newtown competitors rose to the challenge and achieved outstanding results across both kata and kumite divisions.

Medal Success Across Multiple Categories

The club celebrated success in several divisions, demonstrating strength in both technical performance and competitive fighting.

Individual Results:

  • Max — 🥈 Silver Medal, Kata
    Max delivered a strong and technically impressive kata performance, earning a well-deserved silver medal against tough competition.

  • Leo — 🥉 Bronze Medal, Kumite
    Leo showed excellent fighting spirit and control in the kumite division, securing a bronze medal after a series of determined bouts.

  • Kaycee — 🥈 Silver Medal, Kumite
    Kaycee demonstrated confidence and skill in the kumite category, earning silver after impressive performances throughout the day.

  • Kev Sensei — 🥈 Silver Medal, Veterans Kata
    Kev Sensei displayed experience and precision in the veterans kata division, earning silver with a strong and composed performance.

  • Phil Sensei — 🥇 Gold Medal, Veterans Kata
    Phil Sensei delivered an outstanding kata performance, securing gold and becoming a national champion in the veterans category.

This year’s results mark the best performance Newtown Shotokan Karate Club has ever achieved at the WKGB National Championships, highlighting the dedication and hard work of both students and instructors.

The success reflects the strong training ethos within the club and the commitment shown by its members both on and off the tatami. Representing JKS Wales, the team demonstrated pride, discipline, and unity throughout the competition.

Kyu Grades Competition 2026

Kyu Grades Competition 2026 — Newtown Shotokan Karate Club Achieves Record-Breaking Success

On the 26th of February 2026, members of Newtown Shotokan Karate Club proudly represented the club at the annual Kyu Grades Competition, demonstrating skill, discipline, and determination throughout the day.

The competition brought together karateka of all grades, providing an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their hard work in both kata and kumite events. Each competitor stepped onto the tatami with focus and confidence, reflecting the many hours of training that led to this event.

Several outstanding individual performances contributed to what proved to be a highly successful day for the club.

Mabel delivered a strong and controlled performance in the Mixed Kata category, earning a well-deserved Silver medal.

Leo achieved remarkable success, securing Gold in Kata with a precise and confident routine. He continued his impressive performance in Kumite, earning Silver, demonstrating excellent timing and determination in sparring.

Kaycee also showed great versatility across disciplines, earning Silver in Kumite and Bronze in Kata through disciplined technique and composure under pressure.

Working together, Leo and Kaycee displayed impressive synchronisation and teamwork to achieve Silver in Pairs Kata, highlighting their strong coordination and shared focus.

Kamilla delivered a powerful performance in Kumite, earning Gold after a series of confident and controlled bouts. She also achieved Bronze in Kata, rounding off an excellent day across both categories.

Thanks to these performances — along with the efforts of all participating students — Newtown Shotokan Karate Club finished 6th overall, marking the highest overall placing in the club’s history. This achievement reflects the dedication of the students, the guidance of the instructors, and the continued support of families and supporters.

The club is extremely proud of every competitor who represented Newtown with respect and determination. Events such as these not only reward technical ability but also build confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all competitors on their achievements, and thank you to the coaches, officials, and supporters who made the day possible. The club looks forward to building on this success in future competitions.
